Asus VivoBook 15 F515JA-AH31 Laptop Review USA 2022
ASUS VivoBook 15 F515 Thin and Light Laptop, 15.6” FHD Display, Intel Core i3-1005G1 Processor, 4GB DDR4 RAM, 128GB PCIe SSD, Fingerprint Reader, Windows 10 Home in S Mode, Slate Grey, F515JA-AH31
The ASUS VivoBook 15 F515 is quite affordable and, like some of the other budget options from Asus, manages to deliver a premium look at twice the price of the laptop. For the price, the size and weight of the VivoBook F515JA-AH31, a notebook with a 15.6-inch screen, may be a boon for office users and students searching for an affordable, portable machine for daily computing needs.
Unfortunately, despite these nuances, it still has drawbacks that are also present in the Asus F512JA-AS34, including a dim and sluggish display, and battery life that’s also short for a laptop at this price range. Performance is fine for basic computing, but anything more taxing will put a strain on the Intel Core i3-1005G1 processor.
The Asus F515JA-AH31 gets some nice touches, and if you would like a capable laptop computer at this worth purpose, there are definitely worse choices out there. If you want the best, you should consider taking a look at our best laptops under $500, which include both Windows laptops and Chromebooks.

The VivoBook F512JA-AH31 is a well-crafted laptop with a sleek design and exciting color schemes. Finally, Asus is breaking removed from the silver metal motif, one thing they used with the ZenBook three, and it thus happens that we’re obtaining what we’ve continuously asked for: unique color options in a budget laptop. We got to see Slate Gray and Blue, with other finishes Coral Crush, Gray, and Transparent Silver. The slate gray is actually the showstopper.
This specific machine incorporates a grey brushed metal lid and a shiny, grey deck with barely visible crosshatching. The model we’re reviewing has its own aptitude, with a chrome brand on the lid and a faux-aluminum deck. But the design isn’t the only reason to get excited about the Asus VivoBook 15.
Asus introduced the ErgoLift on the ZenBook UX333FA, an innovative hinge that elevates the keyboard for a comfortable typing experience, and we’re glad it’s making a pleasant comeback. This time around, the back of the keyboard is tilted upwards at a 3.5-degree angle, providing a better typing experience and improved audio and heat management. At 14.1 x 9.1 x 0.8 inches and advisement in at 3.75 pounds, the VivoBook 15 is relatively compact for a 15.6-inch laptop pc.
The VivoBook F515JA only has a decent collection of ports for a 0.7-inch-thick laptop, but I wish it had a Thunderbolt 3 input. On the left are two USB 2.0 ports, a microSD card slot, and LED indicators for charging and battery status.
On the right, there’s a DC jack, a USB 3.1 port, an HDMI port, a USB Type-C port, along with a headphone/mic combo jack.
With such a premium style, we have a tendency to only would like Asus to use an equally vibrant display. The Asus VivoBook 15 F515 comes with a 15.6-inch 1080p display, that is sharp and bright however fails to deliver true colors. The screen will only reproduce 68 percent of the sRGB visible spectrum, which is a smaller amount than competitive laptops: the Lenovo IdeaPad 530 (72 percent) and also the genus Acer aspire 5 (74 percent) — two laptops with notably sluggish performance.
All of them score below the mainstream laptop average of 89 percent. However, it tops the mainstream laptop average (242 nits) with an impressive 257 nits, which means it should be best viewed outside even on a sunny day.
Keyboard And Touchpad
The VivoBook F515JA-AH31’s island-style keyboard delivers a very comfortable typing experience, made possible by tactile keys and an innovative ErgoLift elevated hinge, which makes up for defects such as shallow key travel. The keyboard has 1 millimeter of travel but the keys are shallow for a 15-inch laptop. We’d always like at least 1.5mm of key travel, but the keyboard has a lot to offer.
Its individual keys are well spaced, generously spaced, apart from a slightly smaller number of pads and less travel, but the pleasant springiness of the keys. Beneath the keyboard is a 4.1 x 2.8-inch touchpad, which is spacious, quick, and responsive to Windows 10 gestures.
The designed Asus VivoBook 15 F515 is healthier for a sub-$500 notebook, providing higher performance than competitory Chromebooks like last year’s HP Chromebook 14. The 10th-generation Intel Core i3-1005G1 is a new mobile chip that offers to match strong performance with efficiency, and 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage give it a serious boost over similar machines with ancient rotating exhausting drives.
As for graphics, you have an Intel UHD graphics card which is quite useful for basic tasks using an integrated card, though it certainly isn’t good enough to power AAA gaming.
On daily use, VivoBook 15 will easily meet your demands. Four cores are plenty of computing power for most tasks, and with a clock speed of 3.6GHz from headroom to boot, it can explode as needed. It makes the laptop feel fast, launches SSD programs quickly, and makes some simple tasks, such as basic photo editing, works fast.
The Asus VivoBook 15 uses an energy-efficient CPU, which adds up to good battery life, but not great battery life. The notebook lasts for 5 hours and 24 minutes, which is a smaller amount than the IdeaPad 530s 7 hours and 43 minutes however still lags behind the aspire 5 which clocks 9 hours and 27 minutes on a single charge. Mainstream laptops average 7:28, about an hour longer than the VivoBook 15’s runtime.
Our Rating | Good
The Asus VivoBook F515JA-AH31 is a good-looking laptop that’s affordable and offers perfectly good battery life, but you’ll have to live with short battery life and a dim display.
- Premium design
- Minimal screen bezels
- Solid port selection
- Sub-par battery life
- Dim and dull display
- Weak audio
In this ASUS VivoBook 15 review, we found that the Asus VivoBook 15 is a good-looking laptop for the price, but the performance and overall feature set don’t quite match up to what its design promises. The display looks fine with a minimal bezel feel, but it only lasts until you power it on as the screen gets dim and dull.
There are some aspects of the keyboard that are pretty cool, including the ErgoLift hinge which does a good job of angling the keyboard a bit and the key spacing is pretty decent, but it’s held back by the sponginess of the keys.
And while the VivoBook 15’s size and weight make it a relatively good choice for those who need to carry their laptop around, the moderate battery life makes it hard to recommend for that purpose. While there are always going to be some tradeoffs on a sub-$400 laptop, there should be some highlights.
That said, while we recommend the Asus VivoBook F515JA-AH31 for good design, a comfortable keyboard, and a good price, it’s still hard to recommend it as the best overall. If you are searching on a versatile budget, you would possibly wish to think about the HP 15-dy2021nr, our Editors’ selection for general-use laptops.
In addition to the sleek lightweight design, the HP 15 laptop features an Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage, and Windows 10 Home, which is an improved version of Windows 10 S preinstalled in the Asus VivoBook. F515JA-AH31. But if you’re on a tight budget, you can opt for the Asus F512JA-AS34, at least it gives you 8GB of RAM, double the 4GB of RAM on our review unit.
